The Caps played another strong team game and beat the Northern Blackhawks 2-0 in game 3 of the Bantam AAA Provincials. The Caps opened the scoring five minutes into the game on a goal by Patrick Daley. That goal was the only goal scored until Malcolm Arseneau fired the puck from his own blue line into an empty Blackhawks net with 30 seconds left in the game.
It was not an easy victory. Both team played very well throughout the game. End-to-end skating intermingled with good scoring chances characterized the play. Both goalies had to make many good saves. Tristan Meadows earned the shutout and made two key point-blank saves off Northern players in the third period to keep the Caps in the lead. Northern goaltender MacKenzie Gray was also called on time after time to make good saves off dangerous Cap shots.
With the win the Caps find themselves in second place in their division. Moncton holds down first place with a 3-0-1 record for seven points. The Caps 2-0-1 record for five points is one better than the KV Rangers record of 2-1-0 for four points.
The Caps play KV Saturday morning at 9:15 am. A win or a tie will send the Caps through to the cross-over semi-final games. If the Caps lose KV will advance.
